Centennial Celebration of US Gift of Flowering Dogwood Trees

On April 10th, the Japan Postal Service and the American Postal Service started selling sheets of postal stamps to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the gift of Flowering Dogwood Trees by the US to Japan. In 1915, the Dogwood Trees were presented to Japan by the US as a show of friendship between the two countries. The price of the sheet is 820 yen in Japan whereas the price of the American one is $5.88. The Flower of the Dogwood tree is called Hanamizuki in Japanese.

Hanamizuki sung by Yo Hitoto

Hamamizuki was released in 2004. Yo Hitoto was inspired to write the lyrics of the song by an email which was written by her friend who was in New York when 9/11 took place.
