Daikoku Matsuri

The Daikoku Festival is being held at Kanda Myojin shrine in Sotokanda, Tokyo this weekend. The festival features Daikoku and Yebisu, the two gods of abundance in Shinto, and priests dressed as these two gods shake gravels to bless those who pray to them. The highlight of the festival is Kanchu Misogi Gaman Kai, which took place on Saturday, where approximately 30 men and five women bathed in cold water where a big cube of ice is placed. By bathing in cold water, it is believed that the participants are able to wash away their spiritual dirt ( such as negative energies and bad luck). The audience were amazed by the courage of the participants.  Kanda Myojin is about 10 minute walk from JR Ocha no Mizu station.
