Governor Yuriko Koike Vows to Quit Drinking
At a New Year party on January 6th held by the Komei party, which is a coalition partner of the Liberal Democratic Party, the Governor of Tokyo, Yuriko Koike, announced that she would quit drinking alcohol until the election of Tokyo Assembly members this summer has completed. Koike made this vow in an attempt to bring luck to members of her party, the Liberal Democratic Party, in the election. In Japan, there is a custom of quitting something you find pleasurable until your wish comes true. According to Nikkan Sports, Koike does not drink like a fish, but does enjoy a couple of glasses of beer and wine occasionally.
