In the 1970’s, a toy store called the Kiddy Land in Harajuku, Tokyo began selling Halloween goods, and in the 1980’s they also started doing a Halloween parade in Japan. In 1997, Kawasaki, Kanagawa be can hosting a Halloween parade which is not the largest in Japan. Tokyo Disneyland also started a Halloween event in 1997, and it has become an annual event since then.

In the past several years, Halloween has become widely accepted among Japanese people, but possibly due to the Japanese reserved nature, it is not common for children to of to houses in their neighborhood demanding sweets. If they were to go to Trick or Treating, it would be among a very small circle of people who they already know. In Japan, it is more about dressing up and having a party among friends.
