Year of Monkey
Eto (干支)is a traditional Japanese way of dividing a cycle of 12 years using 12 animals. 2015 was the year of the sheep, while 2016 will be the year of the monkey. The symbol of the eto animal is often used for things that are used around new years such as new year’s greeting cards called nengajo (年賀状) and ornaments. At the moment, you can see a lot of monkey motif items at the markets that sell goods for the new year.
