Couple with Two Dogs Saved by Self Defense Forces

During the September 10th floods in Joso city, an older couple with two dogs were left stranded on the roof of a destroyed house. As the couple held their dogs tightly, Self Defense Force soldiers descended from a helicopter to retrieve the couple and their dogs who had been placed in totebags so that they would not jump into the rushing water. The story was widely reported in the Japanese media and has led to a very positive view of the Self Defense Force by the public.
