On May 24, there was a human chain protest in front of the Parliamentary building in Tokyo against the construction of a new U.S. military base in Henoko. Approximately 15,000 people participated, including MP Denni Tamaki who represents the third district of Okinawa in the lower house of Parliament and Susumu Inamine, the mayor of Nago (the city in Okinawa where Henoko is located).

The protesters wore blue in order to symbolize the color of oceans off Okinawa. Around 3 pm, the protesters held hands to create the human chain.
