Konodori

Konodori is a comic that describes the story of a young male obstetrician/gynecologist, Sakura Konodori. Konotori is very rare surname in Japan. Most Japanese people think of a Japanese word for a bird, stork when he or she hears the word konodori. Usually, Japanese people pronounce konotori, but they can tell that the title is derived from the bird. In Japan, storks are said to deliver babies. When the media asks the Japanese royal family a question about their future baby, they usually reply that it depends on the emotions of konotori.

The drama series based on the comic started on October 16 on TBS (Channel 6). Go Ayano is playing Sakura Konotori.

The author of the comic is Yu Suzunoki. He was inspired to write the comic because he was impressed by his experience of having his own baby.

Eleven volumes of the comic have been published so far and volume 12 is going to be published on November 20. The story covers a lot of issues such as premature babies, threatened miscarriages, sexually transmitted diseases, and poverty. The author describes these various issues related to life with great illustration and storytelling skills. The author guides readers to view these issues from a very calm bird’s-eye view without judgment, and let readers think about lives.
