Sanja Matsuri Begins

Sanja Matsuri, a festival hosted by Asakusa Shrine is taking place from May 19th to May 21st this year.
On Friday, a parade called Daigyorestu took place and shira-sagi dancers, geisha and local Asakusa residents walked from the Tokyo Asakusa association through the streets of Asakusa to Asakusa Shrine. After the
parade arrived at the shrine, the Binsara dance was performed in the shrine.

Sanja Matsuri is one of the most major festivals in Tokyo and approximately 1.5 million people come to see the festival each year. The highlight of the Sanja Matsuri is on the third day where three mikoshi will be carried to the shrine.
